Bald Head Island

Elisa and Chris

Bald Head Island wedding. Ferry access, golf carts, chapel ceremonies, beach portraits. I’ve photographed it.

Elisa and Chris wedding photography

A wedding on the island.

I photographed Elisa and Chris’s wedding in 2024. They’re clients turned longtime friends. They are from Washington and flew in to visit their parents’ getaway home. They had around 20 guests. Ceremony at the chapel. Portraits right after. No long travel between locations.

That changes the pace of the day. More time. Less rushing. Cleaner transitions.

Keep room for the people between the portraits.

The gallery moves from an outdoor couple portrait to a close moment with a guest holding a bouquet and a black and white photograph under string lights. Those are different parts of the same story. Look at the guest moment.

Read the Bald Head Island wedding planning story for ceremony, transportation and timeline context. When we discuss coverage, I want to know who you most want to spend time with. I would leave space around the formal photographs for greetings, conversations and the reception, with a realistic allowance for moving between the places on your itinerary.

Planning a Bald Head Island wedding.

Most weddings here happen at the chapel, Bald Head Island Club, or private homes. Beach portraits usually happen right after while everything is still close.

Logistics

Dev from Detailed Events Vision, a close friend of mine, helped arrange their wedding. Their vendors included a photographer, wedding planner, officiant, Bald Head Island Club, and chapel.

They arrived with time before the wedding to plan food, table arrangements, the engagement session, timeline, and portrait locations.

You’ll also need your marriage license.

How do guests get to Bald Head Island?

Guests take a ferry from Southport, then use golf carts to move around the island.

Can you have a wedding at Bald Head Island Club?

You typically need a member sponsor or approval to host events there. Check the current arrangements with the venue.

What makes it different?

No cars, a slower timeline, and everything close together can make the day feel more relaxed.
